In order to prove that Samsung indeed copied their design, they had to provide alternatives as to how Samsung could design its tablets so that it will not fall into such infringing designs.
Suggestions include:
Phone
- Front surface that isn't black.
- Overall shape that isn't rectangular, or doesn't have rounded corners.
- Display screens that aren't centered on the front face and have substantial lateral borders.
- Non-horizontal speaker slots.
- Front surfaces with substantial adornment.
- No front bezel at all.
Tablet
- Overall shape that isn't rectangular, or doesn't have rounded corners.
- Thick frames rather than a thin rim around the front surface.
- Front surface that isn't entirely flat.
- Profiles that aren't thin.
- Cluttered appearance.
You have to admit, with these guidelines, there's no way you'll be seeing an appealing looking device from any other brand out there if they had to follow Apple's suggestions.
The whole patent thing has gone ridiculously out of hand to the extend where it's rather amusing to watch, lol. Both companies should just CHILL.
