B is for Barbecue - NB Runners Gathering

Seeing how we haven't had any outings this year as oppose to the couple of gatherings we had in 2012, we decided it would only be appropriate to organize something where by the NB runners could get together to chill and hang out.

The initial plan was to ask a close few, but after awhile we decided to ask see if others were interested to join. The main gist of it was to get the Novena and Scape runners to meet since not everyone ran at both venues. We first asked the regulars, followed by anyone whom we met along the way, unfortunately we didn't manage to invite all, advance apologies to those who didn't get an invite, it wasn't intentional =( The NB regulars and its extended family of friendly runners who join us from time to time is a huge pool after all and keeping  count of every one of them was no easy task.

The first responders at the scene helped out with preparation at the pit, firing up the grill, plucking bean sprouts for the popiah Archer had brought, as well as prep the vegetable kebabs for the evening, having the guys at the table was really useful and a lot was done within the hour we were there.

Shortly after, the crowd slowly increased and the feast began! Off the grill were Pasta, Soup, Salad, Popiah etc, while on the grill were items such as Wings, Franks, Otak, Prawn, Kebabs etc.

It was really good to see the guys mingle and get to know one another. Runners who usually said hi-byes at runs finally got a chance to chat and get to know each other a bit better.

Since it was an adult's gathering, some of the runners brought booze, and along with some silly games, which helped liven the atmosphere somewhat.

Apart from booze and card games, I had passed Neo a Kendama which he's been wanting to get a hold of, and once it opened, out came the challenge to see who could land spikes, I think once the players got a hang of it, it got pretty fun (and funny) to watch!

5 hours flew by really fast, and before we knew it, it was 11 and time to leave. The guys packed the stuff and bid each other farewell.

I think the gathering was pretty successful, and wouldn't have been possible without the help of some of the awesome volunteers who prepped and cooked the food, as well as the people who turned up to mingle at the event.

Thanks everyone for coming down, it's been one heck of an evening. =)
