Pacing at Sundown Ultra

Eve has been wanting to set up a movable station during Sundown Ultra to cater to the contestants taking part from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon from the Marina Barrage to Changi Coastal Road.

So after some consideration, I decided why not? Might be a good experience and it'll definitely be nice to keep the guys company until they finished their big race.

I had initially planned to help at the station, then head out to run with the guys. I had overlooked a few things and realised I couldn't get sleep before that night. So while Eve, Adrian and Ash tended to the stations, I found myself fast asleep in Adrian's car half the time trying to get some energy to join the guys midway during their run.

As I had only decided to join them at the 65km mark, I figured 35km of running would be more than enough for me.

I was pretty tired throughout the journey and at some point almost wanted to fall out from lack of sleep. Everyone was sleepy, I think it was inevitable.

Margaret Lim was the oldest female runner at the Sundown Ultra, I think she's 61? I can't remember her age. Her husband Lawrence was with her throughout and together, both completed their first ultra, magnificent couple!

The entire journey was a pretty fun one, we were missing one more runner who was suffering a few blisters under his feet. Mark, whom I found 4 km away after running back to look for him, was tending to his wounds with vaseline by the bay. After a walk, we finally made it to the barrage and with much effort, he pushed himself and made it pass the finishing line, completing the run.

Lunch was being catered at the end of the ultra for the runners, since there was plenty to go around, a few of us tucked in too...prata, sausages, hash browns, eggs etc...it was a decent meal after such a long journey if you ask me.

It started to rain nearing the end of the day and the wind got so strong, it flipped the main tentage over towards the resting area. Thankfully no one was hurt but gosh, it was really massive.

My total mileage which included running back to find Mark went up to 43km, technically an ultra, but hey, 43 is a small number compared to 100km. I'm glad to have ran as pacer with some of the runners though, it was a good experience and overall a satisfying one.

Congrats again to all who completed the race, finishing it alone is a big win on its own. Awesome.

It's ok la, I started at 4 so by then everything had digested. In fact I think it was the beef cubes that kept me going! =P
