Cupcake Parade - Baking for Babe's Birthday

So Babe's birthday's today, and the week leading to it I wasn't sure what to get for her as a birthday present.

Me being me, I'm not the creative sort and hence was planning to get her a pair of running shoes since she's been wanting to get a new pair for some time now. I know Chinese traditions consider that quite taboo, but obviously I'm not that much of a traditional person to begin with. =)

So when the gang initiated a chat to discuss what to get for her birthday, I was given the idea to bake cupcakes for her, to which I immediately took up the idea, why not right?

I did quite a bit of googling to find a way to make cupcakes and came up with the idea to do a rainbow version since it was pretty psychedelic and I'm sure she would love it.

I did a test cake a week before the actual bake and it came out wonderfully, but this morning when I proceeded to make my first batch, I got itchy backside and decided to experiment with it, thinking what could go wrong right?

Apparently putting marshmallows into cupcakes weren't that good an idea, and as usual, I overestimated my cake mix, pouring in too much than I should have. After further reading did I then realise marshmallows in cupcakes weren't really marshmallows, but used something known as fluff which is essentially the same ingredients as marshmallow.

How smart of me for not buying more cake mix, so I ended up going to the supermarket to buy another two batches just in case the next batch failed.

The second batch was a bit more successful, this time I managed to get the amount right, and the size came out the way I wanted it.

By the time I was done, it was 11, and I was pretty much ready to decorate the cake, I had all my ingredients but I wasn't satisfied. I wanted dinosaurs cause I knew how much babe loved it, and since the ToTT store opened at 11, I rushed down to do a quick last minute shopping for decorations and a cake box.

It took me quite awhile to decorate the cakes, obviously I'm not very creative and personally the nicest one is the blue icing with the rainbow on top...that I kinda got off the internet so it's kinda like playing cheat I guess.

After a few more touches, it was off to Babe's house to pick her up, and we made our way to Hougang Mall to check out AP, as well as share the cake with the rest (I don't think she could have finished all just now anyway).

I'm seriously glad she loved the surprise...she kinda suspected I was baking something, and had it somewhere along the lines of cupcakes, but I didn't let her see the decorations until the very end, and I'm glad she thoroughly enjoyed it!

Happy Birthday baby girl. Love you so much! =)
