Turns out, my shifter cables were rusty, VERY rusty, and because I frequently use the back gears more than the front, they gave out faster, fraying underneath the housing and eventually getting itself caught...so much for wanting to perform a tightening, whole cable replaced for $8.
On top of that, the uncle also went ahead to realign my rear brake mechanism which was way off and causing a lot of unnecessary friction, and did a tune up of the front shifters as well, he then went ahead to oil the bicycle chain too.
Total bill came up to $12 for a 45 minute job. After leaving the shop, the ride back home was way better, wah damn happy!
