Happy Lunar New Year People

So for those of you who celebrate the Lunar New Year, u'd know it's the year of the RatThat's MY year...which means soon enough, I'll be 24 yrs old...very old indeed...sigh.

Bu more of that later.

MONDAY

Remember last month's Char Siew challenge???

Well the two of them are at it again, this time with a can of Top Shell per person!!!

*ACK!!!*

Now I don't mind eating top shell, it's normally that thing u get served with vegetables and some sauce at wedding dinners right? But to eat the thing whole and out of the can...a little too much right? lol

So I went down to the shop on Monday to check it out and found the guys spending a lot of free time building themselves a "Robot" out of cardboard boxes they found lying around in the shop.
Now I'm not gonna put most of the pictures of the top shell challenge on this blog, partly due to the fact that it was pretty turn off...lol.

But after spending 15 minutes on a can opener they were not familiar with, they finally got the cans opened and started munching away...with a video recorder taping their every move...lol.
This was kinda odd that it even caught the attention of a small boy from the barbershop who came in and started watching and wondering what the hell were two guys doing munching down these humongous beige looking stuff, and who's this guy filming it????

Midway through though, the other two colleagues Jinta and Yoshio who worked at the office as well came walking in after lunch and were pretty amused and somewhat disgusted by the two food-adventurous guys...lol.

Anyway after 30 mins of the entire ordeal, the two cans were finished...Hans was pretty much amped for a second go while Colin pretty much had enough of Top Shell for the entire year...haha.

TUESDAY

I joined the guys at Starlight Custom Silver for a small SGDrifters get together dinner down at the shop.

Remember the last time we had steamboat at the place? We ended up making soup that looked like this.
So not wanting to waste perfectly good soup with extremely bad cooking, the guys opted for a teppanyaki approach and decided to skip the soup altogether.
Now I'd like to say that the two oddest things I found on the table happened to be the two delicious items I've ever had on teppanyaki as well.

And that's golden enoki mushrooms and cabbages in the picture above. These two items normally reserved for a pot of soup went really went on the hot plate with a lil bit of butter and soy sauce...if you're gonna have steamboat bbq some day just give it a try, so what if you friends think you're mad??? One of our Zhihao's friend did, but 5 minutes later she's working the hot plate making batches of mushroom for herself...haha!
Other than Zhihao's friend(the girl in Yellow) whose name I can't remember, Joshua also invited two other ladies from Spain who worked at the Spanish Embassy to come down and join us for a truely unique dinner experience...what with the constant splatter of butter causing the bunch of guys to jump out of their seats in fear, it was definitely a sight to see...lol.
Shortly after we had a surprise visit from Rick(Airforce Major) who brought along his pocket bike to show to us...now some of you may have read about it recently in the Sunday Times about how hot these things are, lol most of the guys here have tried it way back in 2005 and back then I was considering getting one but didnt do it in the end...lol.

WEDNESDAY

Morning, the classes gathered and head down to the Singapore Arts Museum to check out some of the art work on display to get a better understanding of Art Appreciation. Since our lecturer was the one in charge of the whole thing, he had gotten us a cheaper discount rate for entering the museum.

We weren't suppose to take pictures but I thought...what the hell and took some luh...
I didn't take much though, plus there weren't much to take...my trip down to SAM with Lynnette the last time round had pretty much the same things on display other than the ones I'm posting on this blog...so yeah...it felt like I already knew the place and what to expect so the moment class ended I headed out with Jade and Kelly to have a (supposedly)light meal and went back to school to finish up on some work.

Night....reunion dinner!!!

As always, reunion dinner was held at my aunt's house...whom I find to be one of the best cooks ever...I simply LOVE all her home cooked food...and when it comes to CNY, there's nothing more tastier than her home made Ngoh Hiang!!!!
Normally before dinner starts, these will disappear before everyone gathers at the table(thanks to me and my cousins who constantly find ourselves picking from the plate she'd place in the kitchen before hand...lol).
Ofcourse, dinner is always excellent as usual and the mushroom tray caught my attention the most!!!! I found myself digging my ladle into this tray to scoop out loads of this incredibly tasty fungus which I love so dearly =)
And then there's my niece Xena!!! Who as usual, constantly tries to pull hair, poke me with her child-safe scissors and smack my face while I'm busy on the computer...lol children...so hyper...gone are those days for me. =(

She's all grown up and now has a lil sister who's not as havoc, but put the two of them together in a room, and they'll tear the place up in no time...haha, so adorable =)

THURSDAY

visiting started really late...like...3-ish. We didn't go that many places...but later I found myself heading down to Danny's place at Bukit Panjang where she had invited a few of us for CNY visit =)
I had driven to her house for dinner and in the process, lost one side of my contact lens...which became sorta a problem driving back home, but after one near miss with an SUV while exiting the condo, the rest of the ride was pretty smooth sailing..uncomfortable...but smooth sailing =)

FRIDAY

We were invited to one of my dad's friend's house at Waterside, which just so happened to be the same Condo my classmate Jade lives in.

The houses there are fantastic, and since they got a new apartment on the 17th floor(so now they've got 2 apartments in total...ACK!), we got up to check out the view...and gosh what a view!!!
But of course, since most of the ppl were pretty much the older generation, I figured it was pointless hanging out there so while the guys played Nintendo Wii(which looked pretty neat by the way), I went down and hung out with Jade at the swimming pool area with her dog for awhile before heading up again for dinner....and then to send my brother to MOS later in the evening.

SATURDAY

Dinner at my house!!! Not gonna say much about it, I'll just post pictures cause there were quite a few, I did make a pot of Mushroom soup which finished pretty fast though...guess I should have made a bigger batch..=\

THIS, Colin, is a Portebello Mushroom...definitely "burger" worthy...=)SUNDAY

We headed out to our remaining relatives...nothing much, except for another uncle's house which he had designed and built himself(he's a contractor u see).....AMAZING indeed...4 stories up with a fantastic view!!! And a bedroom that's fit for a king!!!! =D
I didn't take much pictures though, cause it kinda made me look like some sort of building inspector...lol.

That's my younger(but much taller) brother in the picture by the way if you're wondering.

Thing with my uncle, is that he was really successful a long time back until the 1998 depression turned him bankrupt, but 10 years later he's back on his feet and constructed himself a new house for his family and even his son's wife whom they got married 2 yrs back...a HDTV in every room is just incredible...if I could earn like a third of what he's making, I'd consider myself successful already...lol.

Well it's getting late, I'm heading off to the shower and hitting the hay soon.

You guys have a splendid week ahead yep???

Takecare ppl, cheerios =)

Andrew
