Lo Hei, Valentine's Day and Chingay

First up I'd like to wish everyone of you guys Happy Valentine's Day!!! Whether you're single, attached...married...divorced....etc...who cares right??? =)

And NO that's not me in the picture, haha, that's our Korean classmate Jaeyoung staring out into the skyline when I hurriedly snuck up and took a picture...lol.

Any interested girls??? Heard he's attached though, and if you'd know him, I'd say he'd make one hellava boyfriend. =)

Okok so lets revert back to the beginning.

TUESDAY

So to celebrate the Lunar New Year, the guys over at HCL decided it would be best to host a "Lo Hei" ceremony in the school to let the foreigners know a bit about our local tradition.
Jamie had arranged for 6 sets of "yu sheng" from Ichiban Boshi at Suntec and I had helped her with the "transport" on monday to set up for tuesday's event.

So while she, rebecca and xin wei were introducing to us step by step the different items to put into the "salad", out group just couldn't be bothered with the whole routine and went in "rojak" style...lol
Of course to me, all "yu sheng" tastes pretty much the same...I mean, how different could they be other than the fish right? plus the sauce is so thick you pretty much can't taste the fish anyway. =)
There were some games after that, followed by Dr Andy, our dean, giving out ang baos of good luck to all the students who were present at the event =)

WEDNESDAY

I didn't stay up late at school that Wednesday...I had other plans, which involved dressing up in a terribly awful purple costume and performing at the Supreme Court infront of live tv...of course, I'm talking about the Chingay performance, and I had rehearsal to attend with the guys who were there...lol.
Some of us were pretty hungry, but glad that we had a chance to practice on the actual stage before the actual day....so after a long night over at City Hall, we went round the corner behind Funan IT mall for dinner cum supper

THURSDAY

So it's V Day...what plans did you guys have that made it all worth while?

Mine basically involved me staying back in school till 11-ish trying to compile up the videos for the Rebel 1 class.
I did have time to join the ppl who were helping out with the ICES convention...they had dinner at the POD, 16th floor of the NLB, and boy what a view!!!
Most of the volunteers(like the 4 schoolmates from REbel2 here) wore black while I had on a slightly different shirt so it kinda felt out of place but since I was invited up to the POD to join the event, I'd figured I enjoy myself and made my way to the buffet line...lol!
Isnt it cool??? I couldn't say much about the food though.
Now the meatballs were great, and so were the sausages...but the things tasted more like pasta toppings without the pasta....kinda felt as though they just dug up whatever leftovers they had in the kitchen and put them on the buffet area...haha.

Overall it was pretty neat...though it was V day spent "alone", at least it beats sitting up home doing nothing right? =)

I did have problems going home though...I reached up at like...2, thanks to the lack of taxis available, not to mention me missing my bus which had left earlier than the given timing...sigh.

FRIDAY/SATURDAY

Chingay!!! Preview and Live telecast!!!

Now I'm really sick and tired of posting about it...but I'd like to say that it was quite an experience, and that Friday sucked really bad, and Saturday was a lot better when we made al st minute switch and went for yoyos that we were more familiar with...lol.
I knew the students at the ICES convention would be going for the Chingay preview, I just didn't know it'd be THAT MANY...lol how embarrassing!! But ok la I guess it was pretty neat to run around the streets of Cityhall without traffic, music blasting through the speakers, especially when you're running at the cross intersection fromt esplanade park to marina square...really amps you up!

Saturday night though, right after the final event, I got a call from SAmmy from Black Angus who invited me and a bunch of the staff over to hang out at the restaurant, which closes on Sunday as their moving out and finalyl finding a new place to relocate to.
It was pretty fun to hang out with the BA crew again...chatting up old fond memories of the place we were gonna leave behind.

Some of the old boys like Esmail and Isa also came back to chit chat, was really fun indeed...sad to see the place finally close down to relocate...but then again it was about time la...that place wasn't really a good location like it used to be 5 years ago.

SUNDAY

nothing really...I spent the whole day in school, but not after making mushroom soup for my dad's friend who had invited them over for a party...I didnt go cause I had to complete the videos for the Rebel 1 class, plus I had to revise on my school work as I didnt have time for it during Chingay.

My parents went to visit my Grandfather's grave today...I couldn't make it...I miss him though...but I'm glad he's prolly somewhere in a better place than right now.

So it;s 2 in the morning, I got sch tomorrow...better hit the hay.

U guys take good care k??? have a great week ahead ppl =)

Andrew
