Char Siew, Steamboat, Marmalade...Bakut Teh.

Now OBVIOUSLY this post will mainly be touching on food.

I mean, if you haven't figured that out by now, good for you...your parents would be really proud.

Monday

So Colin and Hans have come up with a food challenge which they may intend to make it a monthly event.

If you're wondering why I'm not inside this food challenge, it's cause I don't think I can stomach what these guys intend to do.

I enjoy food, but these two take it to a whole new level of "enjoyment"...lol.

So January, they decided to try eating Char Siew whole...

No no, not with rice, not with noodles, and no none of that cut up into slices type...but whole i mean an entire strip.
See now, I love food, but I don't have THAT much love for it....the ideas given by Colin about chocolate alone was enough to send chills even down Han's spine...hahaha!
The whole thing was recorded on Colin's(yellow shirt) Macbook Pro...if this goes well, 12 food challenge videos will be made...mainly raw footage of them chewing on food most of you would never think about eating in such a manner...lol.
See the look on their faces? That's them going "gosh...this is so damn dry la!"
But ofcourse, any food nut would tell u this challenge was a piece of cake, just look at the smile on Colin's face...lol.

Anyway they were pretty much done in just 15 mins i think? Not much of a challenge I guess...anyway they already figured they wanna up the ante and try eating something else WHOLE for February.

I took this off Colin's blog...can you guess which one it is? I'll give u a hint....it's round, it's metallic, and it's definitely not a yoyo.
Each person eats can I think....gosh.

Tuesday

So Kelly had suggested a get together for awhile now(since the holidays actually) but we never had the chance to organize one, so finally we settled for lunch at the House of Steamboat down at Bugis for about 12 of us.
Now I normally would tell u that I the hotpot at Suntec's Chinese Feast is my FAVOURITE steamboat place...and don't get me wrong, it still is...not because my Dad's friend opened it, but because of the ingredients they used that made it taste so damn good!!! But for over $30 per person, we were paying a premium.
now for $13.20 FLAT(12.90 per person I think), you're getting steamboat with REALLY good ingredients, and less than half the price, which taste ALMOST as good as the one Suntec!!!

talk about CHEAP!!! Ofcourse, that was lunch pricing, but still well worth, especially then the lunch buffet was free flow, dinner would be $17.90++...still can't deny it's definitely worth the money, I'd go there again some day indeed.
But ofcourse from the look of the faces of my classmates, u can tell lunch was definitely fantastic. =)

I prolly come across as somewhat weird whenever I ask for a picture to be taken as such gatherings, then again bloggers would prolly agree that they too do this often...wanna capture a memory, have to take photo mah...=)

Now I'm skipping Wednesday and Thursday cause I don't have much to talk about, mostly me staying in sch trying to figure out Accounting...bleah!

Friday

Remember Lynnette's birthday??? I posted about it last week. I couldn't think of a gift to get her, so I figured dinner would be a better treat than another yellow stuff animal. =) Besides, she's also a foodie person, can't go wrong there. =)

So we ate at the Marmalade Pantry...there's on at Paragon and then there's one at Holland V which we went to instead.
U see, the thing with night shots and too much flash light, is ur pictures turn out very un-glam.
LOL. The random lobby talking girl seem to enjoy the dinner, while I look like I haven't had a decent nap for 3 days....ok I haven't.
The food was really good by the way, very...back to basics, sticking to the simplest and tastiest of ingredients. the crab meat pasta was good, although I did have better at this restaurant that nolonger exists(sigh), but the pork loin was fantastic!!! With basics such as cabbages sauteed with garlic and roasted sweet potatoes for the sides. But using right herbs to flavour the pork loin, not to mention using a good grade for the meat, the outcome was really impressive. =)

Anyway after dinner we were too stuffed for dessert, so a good walk around the opposite side of holland V where a lot of ex pat restaurants were was quite the eye opener, I never knew there was another side(literally) of holland v I havn't discovered.

Overall the dinner was great, not something I'd pay all the time for, but definitely worth trying. =)

Saturday

More Chingay rehearsals!!!

I'm baked under the sun I now have an uneven tan...ack!

So PAYM thought they'd make their float more interesting by trying to hoist the thing up while walking...so they invited a Dragon Boat team to come give it a go.

I hear when the float is complete, it'll weigh around 2 tonnes in total...currently it was like...slightly over a tonne??? and if you think a lot of ppl would make things easier, it wasn't as easy as it seem...but still pretty impressive, I'd ripped off my arms if I had done that.
Geyland Serai was there, so was some Chinese society and City Harvest
Now City Harvest's float I don't get...but then again Chingay has no main focus on anything in particular so I guess who cares right? when I think about the PAYM float, I also don't really get it...lol.
Ofcourse, our group also had some time to ourselves backstage practicing for the VIP performance...the sun was really hot, which made things worse...at one point I got pretty pissed off with some of the kids who weren't paying attention...but then again you can't expect all of them to be easy to work with I guess....most of them are still below 18.

anyway after the show, some of us went down to the shop and later to dinner at Glutton's Corner near the esplanade.
I'm not one who'd really appreciate Oyster ommelette, but the one Colin bought was really good and crispy.
Ofcourse, I wanted to try this steamboat bbq set which was mentioned on Leslie Tay's blog....bakut teh in one bowl, chicken herbal for the other.
I have to admit I wasn't really impressed, maybe cause I was comparing it to the experience at the House of Steamboat, which was WAY better, but ofcourse it was still an experience. The grill was pretty interesting, the bakut teh was tasty, although I felt there wa too much pepper, like they were masking up something.

Dinner was great, a good way to end that entire Saturday.

I went home, washed up, sat on my bed watching some documentary on my computer, blacked out from the fatigue of not sleeping well for the past few days and found myself awake next morning at 10:30am...lol.

Well it's 2:40, I need sleep, still got stuff to do tmr.

U guys take care, and have a wonderful week ahead.

Cheers ppl!

Andrew
