Hype Atas BBQ

So about a week ago Xinn had suggested that the bunch of us at Spinworkx hung out for a BBQ, the usual gang being Colin, Hans, Mel, San, Al, Sharon, Xinn and I.

So on Friday, after much discussion, the bbq was to be held at my house since it was the only place available to hold something rather last minute.

Not wanting to fall for the usual trend of a typical Singaporean BBQ, we set up a list and went on a shopping spree to pick up a few items we figured would fall out of the norm from usual BBQs we had with friends.
We had a list set up, but I had forgotten to print it, so we came up with the silly idea of wheeling the laptop around while grocery shopping, which definitely caught a few glances from the public wondering wtf we were up to.
Our menu items included a lot of rather different selections compared to ur usual satay what nots.
- Steak
- Portobello mushrooms
- Asparagus and Bacon
- Whole Squids
- Zucchini and many other stuff.
One of the items that came to mind was Mushroom soup, which I made while Sandra prepped the meat and veg and Mel set up the grill.
The grill which Sandra had "sponsored" for the BBQ was just the right size to handle a group like us, I think it was a pretty cool grill too, simple yet easy to set up and bring around.
Sandra also went ahead to dish up a simple batch of potato salad since we figured we never eat potatoes on the grill.
The bacon asparagus were quite the head turner too =)
Hans dropped by awhile later after accompanying his dad to the hospital for some tooth surgery, and bought some extra stuff while on the way down.
I think for a small group like us you can sorta tell we had a lot going for dinner =)
Soon enough, the rest started to pour in and things got on the way. Initially I had a bit of a irritable flu, but after awhile it went away so I guess it was a good thing.
Of course, dinner wasn't the only thing we were looking forward to that night.
Colin had suggested we got a lil crazy with dessert, so he brought over his juicer while we melted down chocolate for fondue.

The chocolate kinda messed up though, so it went all lumpy and funky, we had to make a new batch in order to get it to work.
This was all Colin had planned to have, chocolate filled bananas for dessert, though not what he had expected since he was hoping it'd be a lot more disgustingly brown oozing from corner to corner. lol
I think Colin's juicer was a great addition to the dessert party...kinda like a detox segment after having such a massive meat-meal for dinner.
We had planned for more things to be juiced, but cause of our lack of time, we didnt buy much stuff to mix.
Overall I thought this was quite the party, though there wasn't anything to really celebrate about, I guess some times the fun of having some of your closest friends around you is good enough a reason to hold something like this. =)
