New Eat Out

On Monday, Xinn and I went over to Iluma, that new building across Bugis Junction, to have dinner.

We seriously didn't know what we wanted, so we wandered around for a bit and decided to try out the Empire State, which looked a lot like a New York New York joint.
The place at Iluma was pretty new, so a lot of the stuff look pretty nifty, this joint wasn't any different. It had all the hyped up colors, designs and what not, but served up meals pretty similar to that of NYNY.
They didn't have Calamari though (minus 1 point), but had some sorta "seafood ring" which after awhile, actually sorta tasted like the same stuff they use to make imitation crab sticks....hm.
They had a good bowl of Shitake mushroom soup though, which cam complimentary, guess it was an opening deal. Xinn was saying how the soup was good, which it was...afterall Shitake is cheaper than regular button mushrooms, and since its cheap, why use lower grade button mushrooms to make a B-grade soup when you can spend that same amount of money, and buy high grade shitake and make an A-grade soup eh? Plus 1.
Their meatball bolognese was nostalgic...like Xinn described it, "Your first attempt at making pasta", the typical basic ingredients you'd expect, nothing fancy to go along with it. The sauce was great and the noodles were just right...you'd prolly need to mince the meatball into the sauce though cause it's a lil dry if u ate it alone. Overall Plus 1.
The biggest let down to me was their breaded fish with parmesan cheese...basically consider it a cheap version of Fish/Chicken piccata where they use something like a Dory fish, which wasn't really tasty compared to the Pasta. I'd rather the salmon or the batter fish and chips next time I think. Minus 1.

Anyway I figured I'd go there again some other time...I'd prolly order the bolognese again, but I'm prolly gonna skip the fish.

$43 for two people (Soup complimentary)...bring some extra cash if you intend to dine here =)
