Peng Kueh

I'm sure many locals will be familiar with this common chinese treat you can purchase at most markets and food vendors.

It's basically some pink dough wrapped around glutinous rice, which is normally eaten steamed.

Personally, I never liked the steamed version, I thought it to be disgusting and quite terrible to eat.
Then one day my aunt pan fried a piece of it and gave it to me to try, and I never looked at peng kueh the same way again!

Partly due to the fact that the exterior is made of dough, when fried, it becomes like a crispy batter which is oh-so tasteful!!!

When I was working in Black Angus, there was this stall called "Dim Sum city" which had deep fried peng kueh and I would normally buy one when I had the craving, but recently I havent passed any stalls selling this until today when I went to see the Dr and Hougang.

It's really good to relive the memory of an old favorite. YUMS

now if only they sold that somewhere in bugis....
