I'm out of camp!!!
Well not really, but my superior has cut me some slack and allowed me to go for my orientation at UNLV on friday instead of spending time in camp digging my nose into work that I've already passed on to someone else(sorry Nick!!).
Orientation day....
Nope, not week.
Day.
Yeah it's that short.
Besides, what can you possibly find out about a school campus that only consists of 2 floors of the National Library at Bugis???
To be more precise, LESS than two floors, considering the fact that those two floors still contains sections to the library.
So yeah, straight to the point, it's small.
As in smaller-than-SHATEC small.
But nonetheless I'm glad school's started.
No wait, I'm not!!! Army just kinda ended!!! And I didn't even get a break...sigh.
K well orientation was pretty fun, and was organized by the 2nd year students, which means we'll be doing the same for the 4th batch that's coming in.
I really wasn't prepared though, I'm never a very social person, kinda like the quiet type in the background observing.
So it was great to see a familiar face when I was there....Winsor!!!
He's this guy from BMT who was in the same company as I was, and since he was from SHATEC, he too picked UNLV to further his studies. It's glad to know I'm not the only one in this current situation of having to deal with army and school for awhile before we ORD.
Oh, and the guy in blue, that's the Dean, Dr Andy, and damn friendly guy, well....friendly so far. I hope it stays that way. =)
So onto the non-social person which is ME, at least I got to chat with a few ppl, and found out reasons as to why they joined the school. One girl called Renata was from UNSW, which needs no explanation for those who already know the situation there. Another guy chose this place because it was cheaper than campus. Some dude gave the reason that he liked the view....like, what the hell??? But honestly, it's a damn good view indeed.
So the first half passed pretty quickly and before you know it, lunch was ready!
Oddly enough, I wasn't really hungry, big breakfast...yum.
So orientation took us around cugis area for some games, which I'm not really into, haha! But we all participate and had fun, I was just too worn out to really know what the heck I was doing.
I didn't really take any pictures though, except for this one stop we made at Ah Chew's dessert which was one of the points we had to go as part of the game...desert anyone?
So orientation ended at around 4, which got me heading down to meet Zhirong to chill out with him and his friends after a long and tiring day.
I got to try this noodles near farrer park station, pretty nice chicken chop noodles, although I had mine with mince pork as well.
As for work, I'm holding that off for now, I'm not really sure how much that will affect me...but apparently I'm supposed to have commit to 500 working hours as a SHATEC student as part of my training under UNLV so it'll mean I have to start soon once more, but I'll chill for now and see how things go. Once I'm confident, it'll be back to serving steak at Black Angus. =)
Sunday(today) kinda sucked.
Mainly because we had to attend the Army Half Marathon.
But it was also good, cause we had to attend the Army Half Marathon.
Lol, I mean, it's about time I did more running since I haven't done so in awhile.
Plus with the opportunity to chill with friends again, why not?
Then again it still does beat not having a camera phone to take pictures with.
The run was pretty good, Vineet and I did the 12km route, none of the guys took the 21km, which started alot earlier. Plus I'm not into running so 12km, already too much for my standards...haha!
I couldn't have done it without Vineet pushing my ass all the way though, I ended up making 4 stops because I couldn't take it anymore...phew!!! Glad it's over.
Pictures of me? NAW, you don't wanna see those man, terrible!!! Besides, we sweat so much when we cooled down, there was a lot of salt left on our arms we had to brush them off....eck!!!
We finished pretty early and had about an hr and a half before we had to meet the rest of the group, so a hotcakes meal at Suntec Macdonald's did the trick.
Yep, well I'm done with this post, I got school tomorrow, I hope I wake up in time!!!
Gtg dinner now, you guys take good care, cheers!!!
Andrew
