KL Eat Fest 2014 - Day 1

It's a yearly tradition, every December period, the Tier would pack their things, forget all about work, and make our way up to KL to eat till food oozes out from our ears.

This year it's no different, and last weekend we found ourselves on a mini van making our way up to KL for yet another annual eat fest in KL.

This time, unlike the past few trips where we've tried a tour bus and airplane, we booked a private van this time round, allowing us to stop at places we wanted to use the bathroom and eat food along the way.

The first pit stop was in JB at a coffeeshop, nothing unique, but I generally find JB wonton noodles nicer than local wonton noodles, maybe it's the chili? Nothing fancy though, just a preference.

The second stop would happen a few hours later, where we went searching for Meng Kee's second stall, located far away from KL's central area. With the private van, we could make the journey, and it took us quite some time, but we managed to make it in time for lunch at some ulu industrial area.

It's been awhile since we sunk our teeth into really good char siew, last year's Meng Kee experience was good but some time this year the main stall in KL closed down, and so we were thrilled to find the second outlet serving char siew that was better than the original. Better because it was served HOT, not mild or cold...but HOT...nothing better than piping hot and crispy char siew to wake you up and remind you why you sat in a van for hours on the road.

Unlike the past years, this year's hotel stay was at the Ritz Carlton since Sharon had a discount and the stalls around the area where YY38 was no longer serves during the day time.

So our second food point was at Ippudo...Colin had heard that the one in Malaysia was better and so we went to try.

Personally it wasn't much different, but I was impressed with their side dishes like the gyoza lasagna which was pretty impressive.

After the meal, it was time for a little shopping, followed by dinner at Wong Ah Wah along Jalan Alor.

This place served up some pretty good bbq seafood and wings, which were the main highlights for us that evening.

Told you before that this was a food trip, so expect lots of food pictures.

By the time we were done with eating, it was 3 in the morning. We headed back to the hotel and knock out. It's been a long day one, but what a day 1 it was. =)
