It's been one hell of a weekend for me, if you read a few posts down in my Friday entry you'd note that I was nursing a flu that was pretty mild initially. I had been hydrating with water nonstop to keep it at bay and it sort of worked for the most part, but then I knew that come the weekend, I'd be in for quite a packed schedule, what with two pretty long distance runs to cover, one on Saturday and another on Sunday.
So let's start with Saturday's Running Department AHM Training and SCMS Pacer Selection Run. I got up at about 5:30am and made my way to pick Ivy, her brother and sister in law before making our way to Big Splash to meet with the rest of the RD peeps. I've been wanting to run with them on a weekend but never really had the motivation to wake up that early to head down to run. This weekend though, I figured "heck" and decided to give ECP a try, it's not like I've not done this before, I've endured months of Pacer Training back when I was in Newton Running Club pacing at AHM 2012.
I recorded two timings cause midway during my run I accidentally hit the stop button on my Runkeepr, damn! The run was a pretty decent one, basically we were trying to see how Ivy could fair for a 21km Marathon, her last was about 2hrs 40+mins? Pretty sure that record's going be broken already.
I had the camera with me that day so I whipped it out took a few photos after the run, the SCMS Pacer Program was still ongoing so I managed to grab a few shots of some of the runners from RD.
After the run, we adjourned to La Ristrettos for brunch which most of the NB Runners have been to except for Ivy. The mushroom soup as usual was the highlight but I thought breakfast that day was a little hit or miss.
After an unsuccessful attempt to get our feet massaged in Chinatown. cause Adrian was in the midst of his Peak to Peak ultra marathon, we later made our way down to one of the checkpoints in Dairy Farm to drop off some food before I send her home and went back to sleep.
Dinner was with Dad at home, soup and rice was the meal of the day. I was feeling sick again by evening but pop 2 panadol pills and slept early to try and shake it off.
The run took a whopping 5 hours to complete, but at least those who've been wanting to visit the quarry finally managed to after such a long time.
So remember how I said my flu had kinda subsided? Then lunch happened. Though since we were press for time, we just went with the flow and ate whatever the group were eating. At this point I couldn't taste anything though.
By the time I got home, I knocked out for 2 hours and woke up to dinner, and had forgotten to tell my Dad that I should be avoiding anything fried, so I came down and found fried rice at the table, it was like sandpaper down the throat...ouch!
By the time it was about 9+, that's what I gave in, and got my Dad to send me to a 24 hour clinic to get checked.
Turned out it wasn't the flu, but tonsillitis, which had similar symptoms but excluded the cough which I didn't show signs of either. I had my temperature checked and it was at 39.7!!!
After I had gotten home, I immediately took my meds, went to bed, and woke up Monday morning feeling so much better.
I had my reasons for going through this much trouble over the weekend but hey, despite falling sick I felt it was worth it, I'm not going to do this any time soon, probably never, but hey, some times people do stupid things for crazy reasons eh? =)
Am feeling a lot better now thank goodness.
Overall it's been a fun awesome week, glad to have participated in both runs over the weekend.
