Asia Pacific Yo-yo Championships 2014 (in Collages)

Was planning to blog a lot about AP and flood the page with pictures, but then I had about 40+ photos to share and didn't think it was the best way to post them, so I went ahead and jammed them up together in a collage instead.

AP 2014 has been a pretty fast paced event, from the planning to the execution to the finishing. It's been a 3-day nonstop packed event for me, 4-5 days for others. I was helping Uncle Tony with the event prize presentation but as we figured there was no need for my help most of the time, I went ahead and took photos as well.

The participants these year were a mix of players from all over the Asia Pacific, which included the Japanese, Filipinos, Thais, Koreans, Chinese, Malaysians, Singaporeans and many more. Competition was tight but at the end Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Philippines took home top spots at a total of 5 categories. Singapore, unfortunately, didn't make much of an impression this year, but they'll be back next year I'm sure.

Aside from the main competition, a few performances were also featured on stage, mainly yo-yos from different teams, but the one that really stood out to me was SpinGear's performance, an act featuring Taka and the dynamic duo couple, Ryuya Kaneko and Mai Kurihara. Razi was also up on stage featuring Kendamas, and while I can perform certain tricks off the stage, I think it's not easy facing a crowd of so many and landing tricks with ease...which he did.

Traditionally with every AP, there'll be a lot of eating of the local delicacies, and this time one of the main highlights which I managed to take part in was dining at the Geylang Clay Pot Rice with the Taiwanese & Japanese contingent.

One of the other highlights to take note was the after party, held at the National Library Drama Centre similar to last year. I haven't taken part in the after party back in 2013, so it was interesting to see the large crowd that hung out in this year's competition. The finale was a hand shake with every single player who was there before heading off and calling it a night...which many didn't. Most ended up at the first floor outside the library playing till the weee hours.

Lastly, AP wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the help of the many people who were involved, the picture below just shows a few of the volunteers, I've not managed a snap of Alex and his girlfriend, neither could I capture all the judges in my photos, but it was definitely good meeting them and catching up with a few old friends this year.

AP's been fun, here's to many more fantastic years to come. =)
