Gone Running - Fun Fifty Food Run

It's been at least 2 years since we had a long 50km fun run and remembering how the last one went, a lot of us were pretty eager to go again. Eventually, Eve and Adrian helped draft the plan for the event, and on Saturday 15th March, a group of us made our way down to Scape to prepare for a long 11 hour journey to the West (coast).

We had a couple of new runners joined us as compared to last year, and of which, Lanie, Leslie, Wong and Winnie have never completed 50km before but were keen to try, especially for Lanie, Wong and Winnie whose longest they've ever done was just 21km!

Our first stop was easy breezy, 7km to Holland Village where we had breakfast at a coffeeshop. The weather was awesome and everyone were in good spirits. Not wanting to ruin the run, breakfast was light and simple.

The next stop was another 7km away, this time down portsdown road to Haw Par Villa. It's been awhile since I've been to the place, I'm still disturbed by the human-animal sculptures, they've always creeped me out as a kid.

Shortly after, we were back on the road, heading towards Hortpark where Daniel was waiting to greet us, quite the surprise! It was a short chat and photo before we made our way to the Henderson Wave where naturally, another photo was in order.

Lunch was at Seah Im Food Centre, and since their chicken rice is pretty famous, might as well right?

By now we had hit our 20km mark, and Boon had joined us from this point of the run. We have another 30km to go and the next solid resting point was at least 15km away at the 35km mark.

Needless to say, the next 15km was a tad grueling, we made one or two pit stops to get drinks, the sun was starting to get hot but thankfully it was a super cloudy day. By the time we reached Old Airport, it was about 4pm!

Dessert was in order before we made our way off to the next point.

By now, Lanie, Wong, and Winnie have passed their original distance of 21km, and soon enough, they had doubled that when we made it to the Marina Barrage. It was a total of 42km completed in about 10 hours. Of course in a real marathon that's likely a DNF la, but we were just chilling and having fun.

The last 8km back was a tad tough, but everyone was eager to make it back and chill...so people started to speed up a little, and before we knew it, we were back at Scape, slightly over 11 hours from when we set off!

I think the bunch were just relieved to have completed the run, for some, it was their first time doing an ultra, and I think they had quite a blast doing so.

Dinner was Hainanese Steamboat at Thien Kee, Golden Mile. Good grub after a long day of running.

I'll be spending the next 2 weeks in Reservist, so this was sort of a good way to get some workout before I headed in and...ironically, do very little since I'm a Pes C Driver.

Still it was an incredibly fun event, glad to have been part of it, it's been awhile indeed. =D
