So the hard drive was full of bad sectors and they got my hdd replaced.
Though it's gonna take awhile to restore my settings, I am pretty happy with the speed so far, a lot zippier than when I first had Mavericks installed...of course it could just be the lack of applications which is why it's still smooth.
Side note: Always buy Apple Care for your Mac, both laptops so far have gone through enough repairs to justify the price. =)
