Cirque du Soleil - Worlds Away 3D

Caught this yesterday with Colin, Alron and Babe.

I saw my first CdS performance last year and it was breath taking. The sets, the technicality, the creativity all played a part into making it a really good performance. If you've been to Voyage de la Vie at Resorts World Sentosa, any act from Cirque du Soleil will make it look like a toddler's performance.

The Movie "Worlds Away 3D" is an attempt by CdS and James Cameron to combine the best of CdS's performances and 3D technology to bring the magic of a CdS act inside a theatre.

I have to admit, I was very impressed. The sets built for their performances were incredible, and since it was a movie, they took recordings from different Cirque du Soleil shows around the world, from Vegas, to New York, to New Zealand etc, combining some of the best of different themes into one movie. I believe some of the acts were also "made for theatre" only and probably would be harder to execute live.

The online reviews were a mixed bag though, some though the show was fantastic, others thought Jame Cameron was just trying his hand to ride on the 3D money train since his success with Avatar.

Personally? If you don't always have the budget to go see a real Cirque du Soleil show, this is the next best option money can buy. =)
