Where do I start? Quite honestly when I look at the amount of stuff I was potentially going to write, I was quite reluctant to proceed, but hey, it's once a year right?
2012 was an awesome year, it started with a bang, and ended with one too, what more could I ask for? There were a lot of things to write and it seems with each year, there's more and more stuff to add to my review. In a way, I guess you could say "more things to write" = "a more awesome year of memories". 2012 was indeed one full of awesome memories, I wished I could jam them all in one review, but with 56 things to write about at this time of posting, I think there's more than enough to make each week super enjoyable!
Here's some of the best moments I've had for 2012. =)
Sovereign Asian Art Prize (Facebook Image Link)
My last big gig under Art Outreach, and probably one of my most enjoyable favorite ones too! Working for AO was one of my most memorable moments, I have to admit I truly enjoyed working there. However, I figured it was time to move on and hence, after slightly over a year, I decided to look to new opportunities.
Celebrating Two Man-U Fans Birthdays (Facebook Image Link)
Quite an enjoyable evening which started with Skinny Pizza, ending with Canelle. =)
Chinese New Year Meals (Facebook Image Link)
From our own family dinner, to one with our relatives, plus one with Tier 0 at Alron's. CNY last year was wicked, especially when you're celebrating it with the right company.
Celebrating V-Day (Facebook Image Link)
With Babe! We hardly spend VDay on the actual day cause we think it's quite a scam, so we normally have it a day before or after.
Zoo Run
My first event run of the year I believe this was. 12km was it? I can't remember already, all I remembered was that we were running through the zoo and night safari, and I didn't recall seeing any animals...lol.
Occupy Tiong Bahru (Facebook Image Link)
This event was recommended by Hannee and since Xinn and I were free, we figured a short art trip was nice, I totally enjoyed it, and have both Hans and Hwee to thank for =)
No Trails No Thrills (Facebook Links: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Rides!)
All the trails we took on for 2012, it didn't seem like much to be honest, but we managed to do a few, and boy were they fun rides!
BBQ at Jamie's (Facebook Link)
Joined Xinn to meet up with some of the Rebel 1s for a BBQ last year. Never knew making beer prawns would taste so good! And yes, different types of beer do matter as we found out.
Johor Night Market Exploration (Facebook Link)
I have Alron to thank for this, first time visiting the night market streets of JB, I thought it was really fun!!! I think we should get the entire Tier 0 to go check it ou again some day, can't believe it's been months since we headed down!
Bowling at OCC (Facebook Link)
Another event we have Alron to thank for. I think we need to organize another bowling session again one day.
Qing Ming Jie & Orchid Live Seafood Dinner (Facebook Link)
With my Dad's brother's family and all their wonderful nephews and nieces. I enjoy our family gatherings and I think we should make it a regular thing for 2013 as well.
BKK 2012! (Blog Link Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4)
With Babe! It was either here or Hong Kong and quite honestly I was torn between the two. But since it was in June, suffering under the hot weather in HK was a no no, Bangkok it was then!
Parent's Day Celebration (Blog Link)
Another family gathering I truly enjoyed, one that was very neighbourhood-ly, plus it was very entertaining watching my uncle and aunt take the stage. =)
Steamboating at Alron's (Blog Link)
I don't know if it was the food or the company that made this particular luncheon special to me, it's probably a combination of both. =) Thoroughly enjoyed this meal and I think apart from Alron, we have their mum to thank as well for getting some of the ingredients we needed.
Ubin Trippin' (Blog Link)
First "overseas" outing with some of the NB Runners, certainly an enjoyable one and probably one of the first times we actually bonded as a group apart from simply running.
CCwC Exhibition and Celebratory Dinner (Exhibition Links 1, 2, 3, 4, Dinner Link)
This was freelance work that Valerie had asked me to assist with, and I was more than happy to be apart of! Though I'm now in general insurance, I really do enjoy the service line as well as logistics that I was doing while in Art Outreach, CCwC was sort of like a refresher to keep me updated and I was glad to have the opportunity to help out. =)
Punggol Waterway Active Run (Volunteer Orientation Link)
One of run events where we didn't find ourselves running, but rather, helping out as volunteers. You can say it was pretty darn fun, apart from accidentally losing my wallet, only to have it found again by a random good citizen. =D
Zoo Day (Blog Link)
This was probably one of the rare times I hung out with Uncle Tony minus the Tier 0 crew. It was a trip with Jeddy, Roy and his Dad as well. Looking at this image, I realised I was still wearing my vans then...wonder at which point of last year was it that I stopped putting them on altogether. =\
Babe's Birthday! (Blog Link)
I think this was the most ambitious thing I've done so far, but I did had Betty Crocker to help with it =P A bit of experimenting here, some input from the gang, and the next thing we know, a cupcake-cake was born. =)
The Madness of AP (Blog Link)
I believe this was Hans's first year managing AP as the head organizer, congrats to him for that! The poor guy was running around the place getting things sorted out but you can tell from a third person's perspective that everything was going smoothly, Mr Wong Jensen is a smooth operator. =P
This was also my first attempt at trying crops and filters instead of the usual style of photography. Since I had a basic DSLR with limitations, I decided that going "instagram" style might be fun rather than trying to achieve the stuff you get from higher end cameras.
Anya's Baby Shower (Blog Link)
Getting to see Alron's new niece, eating hype attas food, and watching Hans try to get Hwee to blink during looping, it was a fun afternoon =)
National Day Rehearsal with the Nieces! (Blog Link)
An evening with my two favorite but some times super hyperactive nieces. Alron were somewhere across the platform, and we ended with dinner near their home with Alron joining us as well. Fun day indeed. =)
National Day Beach Out (Blog Link)
One of the few times the New Balance guys hung out together as a group! I think this was one of the most memorable ones we've had!
KZ's Farewell (Blog Link)
Heading to Germany to further his studies, some of KZ's close friends decided to meet with him for a farewell dinner and some drinks to celebrate his birthday as well. It felt like school days again where we'd hang after lessons and I definitely enjoyed the food at The Merry Men Kitchen & Bar.
Dinner at Ghandi's (Blog Link)
Recommended to us by Din, I think this was one of the best curry houses I've been to, plus the tea was freaking awesome and I'd gladly go back there again some day for another round of food.
Ryan's Birthday Surprise (Blog Link)
Suggested by Robson, it was also my first time heading down to Serangoon Stadium to try out their interval training. I think you can tell from the photo that he was certainly happy by the surprise!
Pacing for Army Half Marathon (Blog Link)
It was a first for me, but rather than racing in it, I decided to do something I'd prefer, and help out as a pacer for AHM. You can say it was an eye opening experience, getting to know the runners you hang with a little better as well as training up to better my own running base.
Birthday Celebration for Colin and Uncle Tony (Colin's Surprise Link, Wan&Wong Birthday Link)
Haha, I think I made a boo boo by suggesting balloons to Colin's birthday! Whoops! Overall it was two great dinners and I think both Colin and Uncle Tony enjoyed themselves.
Captain Balling @ Sentosa (Blog Link)
Calvin and I initially used the "if no one else join then we join" comment when Li Jin was looking for players to join her for a game of Captain's Ball, little did we know, no one else really joined, and so we went ahead and signed up for the game. I have to admit it was fun, though a lot tougher than I'd expect. "Sparticles" was a weird name, Li Jin's suggestion, it still sounds like a cross between Sparkles and Testicles...Sparkling Testicles?
POSB Run 2012! (Blog Link)
I believe this was Hwee's first run-walk even, Sharon's second and Babe's second too! She also broke her previous PB!
Dim Sum at Red Star made the post-run activity far more fun =)
Craze Ultra 101 (Blog Link)
One of the most enjoyable and hardest I ran too! I only did 30km in the end, but heck, it was hellava fun hanging with the right people throughout the run, glad to have been part of it!
Harry & Andy (Blog Link 1, 2 & 3)
Fun exhibition! I think we had more fun snapping up nonsense pictures at the Andy booth!
Lantern Night! (Blog Link)
As an annual tradition, lanterns were lit again last year, but with a different location, this time near the financial district, lots of nonsense light drawings and weird antics!
Fun 50 Bike Recce (Blog Link)
With Calvin, Din, Neo, and Li Jin. I haven't rode urban in awhile and this was certainly welcomed. =)
Kite Out 2012! (Blog Link)
It's been a damn long while since we met Zelene, and everyone's really glad to see her again. though not speaking yet, she's a lot more interactive than before, that's a great sign! Other fun things included kite fishing which was the sport of the afternoon.
Neo's Birthday Surprise (Blog Link)
Another birthday surprise, this time arranged by Li Jin who managed to get a hold of the bag he wanted, I believe he was pleasantly surprised to know that the bag, which had only 4 of it in Singapore, was not sold away and indeed his for the taking =)
Four Awesome Years! (Blog Link)
It was our four-year anniversary, and to make it a memorable one, we headed to Gunther's to give it a try. I do not regret going there one bit, Gunther's was awesome. Yes, it's pricey, but for an anniversary, why not right? It's something Babe definitely enjoyed and so did I. =)
Fun50 Run (Blog Link)
I had so much fun in this run. The only thing that was annoying me were my hiccups, which did not seem to go away that easily. You can say I was also pleasantly surprise and happy to have Siew Bee and her husband join us, hurray to both of them!
Ghost Busting @ Sentosa (Blog Link)
I think Babe wasn't really keen on this event. The thing is I guess as a photographer it wasn't that scary, the rationale is once you point a camera with an intimidating flash in front of a monster, they'd normally stop and let you take a photo, hence, they won't bug you. #protip
Halloween Scare Pack & Eunice's Birthday Surprise (Blog Link)
Our failed attempt at scaring the NB runners, followed by a surprise to Eunice for her birthday. That thursday sure was memorable!
Newton 30km Challenge (Blog Link)
My first competitive 30km, I'd never ran competitively so far this year, the the Newton Challenge was my first. I was pleasantly surprised with my results and rather happy to have gone below 3 hours for this. =)
Giving Yoga a Go (Links 1, 2, 3, 4)
Recommended by Din, it started out as a test test thing, mainly to support his friend Marcus as well who recently got his license and wanted to keep practising Yoga. It was free, fun, and an alternative to just running every weekend. You can say I do quite enjoy it though some of the moves are really hard to execute being as stiff as a board and having spine problems.
Mum & Dad's Birthday (Blog Link)
Dad's 60, Mum's 59, it was a great evening, here's to more great evenings to come. =)
David's Birthday Surprise (Blog Link)
Planned by Serene. I wasn't sure if I could make it but am glad that I did.
Serene's Birthday at Yum Cha (Blog Link)
The event was followed by KTV but I had other commitments plus I'm not much of the singing sort, haha. The meal was good though and so was the company of runners which took up two tables at the restaurant. =)
Saturday Night Drift Session (Blog Link)
I haven't played with RC hobby cars in awhile and it was definitely fun seeing the guys in action again! We hung till almost 5am which is really late! I haven't gone to bed this late in quite a long while, but it was worth catching up with good old friends. =)
Flew (Blog Link)
Caught a Korean play with some of the NB runners one weekend, I wasn't keen at first but it turned out to be more fun that initially expected, quite a hilarious performance and I was glad Babe was with us as well. =)
Affordable Art Fair 2012 (Blog Link)
I have to thank Valerie for hooking me up with two tickets. I thought the exhibition was great though not as good as the one in 2011, perhaps its cause I was more involved in that event and it conjured more positive memories along the way. =)
Dunearn 50th Anniversary Dinner (Blog Link)
We were expecting more classmates to come but unfortunately not many did. Still, it was enjoyable catching up with some juniors, seniors, and school mates whom we've met along the way. =)
Hwee's Birthday! (Blog Link)
One heck of a dinner, great dining place which I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed! Xinn's attempt at making a cake was adorable and I think most importantly Hwee enjoyed herself. =)
KL Pilgrimage (Blog Link)
Easily one of the best of 2012, spending time with great friends and eating great food. This annual pilgrimage is always welcomed nearing the end of the year!
Present from Mitch! (Blog Link)
I was super surprised when this appeared at my doorstep one evening, all the way from the US! Thanks Mitch! I have no idea how I'm going to down that snickers bar, but I will have to make it happen soon!
Christmas Running! (Blog Link 1 & 2)
With the Newton and New Balance runners. It was quite funny running with pointy red hats, but ok la, it was the Christmas spirit after all eh?
Christmas With the Wong Jensens (Blog Link)
To keep up with 2011's tradition, we had Christmas at the Wong Jensens again in 2012, this time Hans and Hwee were hosting the dinner, while Uncle Tony and Aunt Florence hooked us up with alcohol. Dinner was fantastic as usual, and more importantly so was the company. =)
A Stef & Terrence Christmas (Blog Link)
I believe the last time I had a home-cooked meal with friends, we had to microwave our turkey, and it was also one of the few times Hans and Hwee met prior to them getting together! Great home cooked food, and time well spent with some of Xinn's closest colleagues and good friends. =)
MR 25 Ultra Marathon
I haven't blogged about it, not sure if I am, so no link. What a way to end the year, 5 rounds of running through the trails at MacRitchie, I would have hoped to do more, but 5 is still a number, and one I'm glad to have achieved. =)
So there...all done, took me 3 days on and off to write this, I hope you guy enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it (I lie, writing this wasn't very enjoyable! lol).
Here's to another awesome year, 2013 is just 10 days in and I'm already positive of its outcome. =)
