Yes...IKEA!!! Sneaky Swedes have snuck up from behind and recently announced their new Clutter-Free TV solution. And no, rather than selling you a piece of furniture to incorporate your TV in, it's selling you a whole TV!
Don't expect them to provide you with a branded TV set or branded speakers and such...the company has collaborated with China's TCL Multimedia to bring you this solution.
Laugh all you want, but when you think about it, it really ties in with IKEA considering they don't exactly provide you with high end products, just decent stuff, at decent (subject to opinion..haha!) prices. If you had the money to splurge on higher end TVs, you probably wouldn't be looking to IKEA for your furniture to sit it on top of either.
At about US960 (SGD1,200), you get:
- A TV (Smallest of the ranges I assume)
- DVD / Blue Ray Player
- 2.1 Speakers (Wireless Subwoofer)
- 1 Remote to control everything
- Websurfing Capabilities (WIFI)
- USB Ports
- HDMI Ports
- MP3 Input & FM Radio
- Cable Hideaway Storage
- Storage Space for other stuff
- Naturally, a TV Top
- 5 Year Guarantee!
The 5 Year Guarantee is probably the biggest selling point for its price (T&C applies of course) considering:
- A decent 32 inch TV costs approx $500 - 600 with wireless capabilities n what not
- A decent TV table top costs approx $100-150
- A cheap Blue Ray Player costs approx $100
- Decent 2.1 Speakers approx $300 for a wireless Subwoofer set
That's approx $1,000 - $1,100 for a DIY setup. Note though a DIY solution doesn't come as cleanly designed as IKEA's TV-Cable solution though. You'd also have to deal with multiple product warranties. Plus if you were counting, that's already 3 remote controls you have to deal with.
Even if you probably won't buy this, it's hard not to be impressed with IKEA...they probably figured it's so hard make a piece of furniture to solve the solution, they decided it makes more sense to fit it all in one....iMac style.
