Google Drive's Coming!

It's been in the works for awhile now but Google Drive's finally here! Desktop version not yet available in Singapore, but the app's already up on Android though it's currently an upgrade from Google Docs (With Drive, Google Doc's been re-integrated automatically)

The main features are similar to dropbox so if you're already a DB user then this may not be something you'd need to have. I probably won't have a need for it either but since it's free and integrated with my other google services, might as well install it.

Some of the cooler features which might entice others are:

  • Integration with Google Docs (Work sharing)
  • View up to 30 types of files (incl photoshop, illustrator etc) on your drive even if you don't have it installed in your computer (Great for Windows users unlike Mac which uses Preview for some of these)
  • Core sharing of apps straight to Google Drive (Seems more like an Android feature)
  • Automatic 30 day timeline backup of all your documents so you can track back past versions! (This might be a killer free feature for some)

One feature it doesn't seem to have that DB has is the gallery feature where you can show off your photos gallery style similar to Apple's previous mobileme cloud service, I could be wrong...with Google owning Picasa, there may be some sort of gallery tie-in.

Google Drive will come with 5gb of free storage and US2.50/mth for 25gb or US4.99/mth for 100gb. If you're checking, Dropbox starts at minimum 50gb for US9.99/mth, and 100gb at US19.99/mth

Available on both Mac, Windows, Android, and soon on the iPhone and iPad...sorry Windows Phone users.

Nope, not here too. App is downloadable but it leads to Docs for now.

Think it's releasing in the US first and so other countries will have to wait.

Not sure what I'll benefit from it though considering I'm currently on DB, the other features look suitable for those already heavily relying on Good Docs.
