Read yesterday that there was a stable build of Ice Cream Sandwich out on the Galaxy S, and I'm not one to usually dabble in installing unofficial roms or root my phone...but since I had a bit of spare time ytd, I thought I'd give it a try.
It's not as smooth as the Galaxy Nexus tests seen on Youtube of course, but it's definitely manageable, it's not laggy, but it's not rapid fast to the touch either...it's just enough to get by without coming across as a slow phone...see the demo video below from GSM Arena.
Using ICS compared to GB isn't revolutionary...it's just different, while stock GB was plain and required the assistance of skins from other manufacturers to look good, ICS looks rather good stock, it really is more of a face lift than anything else...and you really appreciate the refinements as well, such as swiping to the left or right to remove a particular notification at the top which is not important, or the added features of the camera now stock in ICS.
Of course as mentioned, some of these features are already standards in some manufacturer skins so they aren't new, they are just finally made as a stock standard, so no "wow" factor in terms of features.
There's no stock video player though...you can play it off the phone's gallery (something like iOS's camera roll?) since it supports avi, mp4 etc, but if you want a dedicated video player, you're gonna have to download, so I got "MX Video Player" which seems to be one of the better ones out there with a clean interface and no messes.
Might switch back to GB next week though, ICS drains battery as fast as iOS5 does on the 3GS....ack!
