Morning West Coast Run

Need to practice doing more slow runs like this to burn more fat.

Short slow run - burn X amount of fat

Short fast run - burn more than X amount of fat due to intensity

Long slow run - then your body learns how to burn fat more efficiently

Hm, wasn't short fast run burning calories but from carbs and not fat? I rmb you mentioning that diff heart rates burned different types of calories.

Short fast run may burn less fat compared to slow run in terms of effort but total fat burn output is still more after a fast run.

You mentioned you want to practice slow run to burn more fat, that only works for long slow runs (>1.5 hrs).

Short slow run is just for recovery or maintenance.

hm, then which will be better at burning more fat-calories? a 6-7km slow run (7+min per KM) or a 6-7km fast run (5+min per KM)?

I can't afford to run 1.5hours so I need to pick either these two options since my morning route is limited to this distance.

That is the most common misconception. It is not the speed that determines, it is your effort / heart rate that matters.

What you deemed as slow may not be what your body think it is. Remember when AL just started using his HR monitor, even at a speed he thought was slow but he was already in zone 3 or lower zone 4.

Don't need to get HR monitor, at least learn to measure your pulse rate when running. Saw hype ironman athlete feeling their neck pulse when they run. Can be done.

lol, I know speed isn't the key, I wrote "slow run" cause it's just a simpler way of saying "lower heart rate run but because I don't have a heart rate monitor I agar agar this speed should be about fat burning for me"

So far mine is more of an educated guess...I figured if I can run at 5min 30 sec as a fast pace, I take it as Zone 4-5, and hence made a rough guess that 7min+ would probably put me at around Zone 1-2.

Will try the pulse thing some day for sure, thanks!

this will solve your problem: https://p.twimg.com/AgOXZIsCEAEAFAy.jpg

if I'm not wrong, the MED to lose fat/weight via running is to do intervals.

Thanks WSY! Given the time of just an hour a day and 7km, would intervals perform better than a slow heart rate run?

craps. I think I have way more blogger accounts than I can handle!

If only 1 hour, intervals should be the way to go. Cos going full speed (Zone 4 or 5) all the way would be too taxing on the body and takes way much longer recovery. Go slow for a warm up then do fast speed interval with rest in between. Don't know what is a good ratio to recommend but you can try 2:1 (i.e. 5mins fast run and 2.5mins slow jog).
