yeah, it is as good or even better than an average PnS already. looking at the number of pics I've taken with the iPhone 4, I think giving away my LX3 is a good idea!
The iPhone 4S can DEFINITELY replace PnS cameras, no doubt about it.Since you got a DSLR for better quality photos, I'd say sell the LX3 and use it as part of your fund to get the iPhone 4s.
I've given it to my mum already =PMy iPhone 4 will be sold to fund the 4S!
