Gingerbread

Android Gingerbread could hit Nexus One soon
Managed to update the phone yesterday night from Froyo to Gingerbread 2.3.3.

I got to admit, without any lagfix modifications or any form of rooting (jailbreak), this thing works a lot better than it previously did!

Performance on the benchmark test showed that it's a lot slower, but hey, general usage is actually faster so who cares right?

There's a 2.3.4 version swimming around that added Video Conferencing feature to it's Gmail Chat (Yes it is exactly like Facetime...phone to computer to tablet etc), don't see the need for such an app, I'm still rather amused that Apple's pushing FT in its latest ads.

In Sg, our friends and relatives are easily within reach. In other countries, they are scattered all over the world and FT is a huge deal to them. Not many of the older generation people are IT savvy enough to use skype.

Eh which generation of Skype are you using? It's as easy as FT! You sign up and set up an account (just like Facetime), you then add a contact (Just like Facetime), be it via phone number or contact name (Just like Facetime), and then you start chatting (Just like Facetime!).

Skype's has more reach though, works on multiple platforms on Mac, PC and Linus, even BB Android, Windows Phone and iPhone.

Not many people in other countries can afford Macs. ;)

You will be surprised how many of my clients don't even know how to setup skype or even setup a gmail account. Otherwise I wouldn't be so busy with macenrich.

I think if they can't set up a gmail account, then the problem no longer lies in the software.

Do these same people setup facetime themselves or do they get their kids or friends to do it for them?
