Edit: Recalculated after looking at more real-world prices
Alternative #1
That's $66.70 per month with the need to change the laptop every 4 years. You also risk 1 year of having no-warranty.
After 8 years, that's $6,400 Spent
Alternative #2
Pay $2,800 Educational Price for the lower end Macbook Pro 15 inch w Apple Care, make it last 1 year, sell it off at $1,800, only $1,000 i spent for that year.
Repeat this step every year.
That's $83.40 per month with a new laptop every year with warranty.
After 8 years, that's $8,000 spent.
---------------------------
With alternative #1
Pros
You save $200 a year
You have a better laptop (At first)
Con
You risk 1 year of no warranty
With alternative #2
Pros
You have a new laptop yearly
You are warrantied all the way
Con
You spend $200 more a year for a new laptop, or $800 more you pay for the "4th year" to insure your mac from failing if you compare it to alternative #1
It's rather hard to conclude. I'd say the Alternative #2 is definitely a better option, but given current pay and real world expenses, maybe this method might be worth considering another 2 years down the road?
I want to further calculate but I think my brain will explode....gosh I haven't done math in awhile, even the simple stuff is starting to give me a headache! =(

why buy Apple care for option 2 since you are selling it after a year?
Yeah Colin mentioned that too since most of the time the refresh comes before the warranty is up...I didn't think of that initially cause I figured it might be vital in the sale of the MBP.
