Xinn was having a long day on Monday. 10am work ending at 8pm wasn't exactly how she wanted to spend Feb the 14th I guess. So I had initially decided to skip Monday and head home cause we already spent "V-Day" at Lawry's. But after some thought, I figured it'd be best to spend today at least doing something, and given the late timing, that something was...well...eating. =P
Given that we weren't going to get sucked into the whole V Day high-price scam this year, we went east, and had Steamboat at Joo Chiat instead, to the Teochew Traditional Steamboat Restaurant which we first had later last year.

Between the both of us, I think this place serves one of the best steamboats to date! It's not buffet style so you don't overload, it serves pretty good ala cartes, and their soup, even before you start cooking, is good enough to whack with a regular bowl of plain rice!

Apart from the usual sliced pork belly and US Prime beef slices, we went for some of their more signature stuff, like their sotong paste and fish kway teow, which taste really awesome! When cooked, they become chewy and springy, similar to the texture of those fish wontons you get actually.

Of course, what steamboat would be without luncheon meat! Ok it's a little odd, but when they started doing so about 10 years back, it's quite addictive and has become a favorite of mine in soups despite its lack of crispy texture you'd get from frying.

Overall Valentine's was great, especially when spent with your love one. Hi babe, thanks for the company =)
