The Other Route

While Apple has gone ahead and taken the approach of having the iOS system mirror on both the iPhone and iPad series, Google has gone ahead and split the Android platform into 2 segments: one for phone, and another for tablets.

The rationale being that even though a tablet's screen is 2-3x bigger than a phone's screen, the icons need not be 2-3 times larger as well. So by doing a bit of arrangement, they've added more real estate for potentially a lot of other stuff, currently being widgets....such as Widgets for Gmail, Facebook, E-Books etc, so you need not open an app yet and still get access to some of these items on your tablet.
I'm actually quite excited to see what makes of Google's approach seeing how it differs from Apple's one-size-fits-all method. Sure I tend to prefer an approach Apple is taking on, but looking at what Google has to offer, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Android Honeycomb can do!

The next gen iPad's probably coming out in the next few weeks, but since speed is nothing without software, I guess we'll see what iOS has to offer for 2011.

Here's MSNBC's sum up of the upcoming Honeycomb, looks like one heck of an OS
