It was my first time taking the Art in Transit tour, and being one who kinda is more into architecture and design, I heard that Andrew Mead, Senior Design Manager at LTA, was giving the tour.
Art is something that I'm till trying to grasp, of course the nature of this job requires me to at least have some sort of knowledge, and to learn to grow an appreciation for it. That'll take time, and hopefully will come naturally through the course of projects I'll take on.
Design on the other hand, I get it, and really enjoy listening to! So to have an architect come in and give his perspective on the design of the MRTs, it really was interesting for me!
I have to admit though, despite it being over 2 hours, it was quite a lot to absorb, and although I had to pull away a few times to take a few calls & msgs, the tour on the whole was really good.
We tend to take a lot of things for granted in life, AIT simply tries to get you to "stop and smell the flowers" at each station, soaking in and appreciating the amount of work put into these stations, which can have as many as 20,000 people stream through every hour during peak periods.
The AIT tour is something I think a lot of people should go at least once to check out. Might even be a great activity to bring a date ;)
There was this interesting comment one of the visitors made though "next time I get lost at Dohby Ghaut station, I just follow the fishes on the floor!".
When you get lost at any place, you normally look up and read the signs.
