Dinner at Por Kee Eating House

Dinner tonight came as a last minute decision when Dad figured we should all head out for a family meal.

Thing is we've always been eating at your typical high-end mall-type restaurants whenever we have dinner, or at hotel buffets and what not, I wanted something more family, more...hdb-style and what not.
Then it struck me, I haven't been to this place for up to........omg...10 years perhaps??? I remember coming here, but I don't remember much about it, I was really young then. But I managed to jog my dad's memory and we headed down to Tiong Bahru market to look for the restaurant tucked away at a public carpark.
The place is rather old school, something you'd appreciate after seeing too much elaborated decor on the walls of much higher end restaurants. This place serves up dishes that consist of yor typical chinese cze char stuff to more signature dishes like their pork ribs and er...fish? I seriously have no idea how to describe it.
Once you are seated down they serve up two simple snacks, peanuts and achar, both which I enjoyed alot, you can't go wrong with peanuts, neither can you with Achar...btu then again they prolly were the premade and purchased types.
The first dish that came was some beancurd braised with mushrooms and bean pods...these were great! I only managed to take two pieces since my brothers were happily chowing down on them. I think my family in general like beancurb with a lil sauce, hence at normaly cze char outlets, it'd be hotplate beancurd =)
The more common dshes like Butter prawns, Dried Chili Chicken and Salted Fish Bean Sprouts were pretty good, but one of the signature dishes that appealed to me the most was the pork ribs!
I dunno what sauce they used, but it hit the spot! The ribs were great! Thing is though they were a little too rich so I got sick of them after the 4th piece, guess I should eat moderately in future.
The last dish that I thoroughly enjoed, was their fish which came with a bowl of "soup" which you pour over the dish while it's cooking by urself, and let the fish soak in all the flavors. It's your typical sour steamed fish, but with more kick, this soup is really quite sourish, but delicious!

In fact, this was the main reason why I chose this place for dinner, cause I missed the fish a lot. I think Xinn agreed, the fish was, in her words "dope".
Overall the meal was a fantastic one, it was great sitting down to enjoy these kinda things, well, especially when their free cause your parents are paying....lol!

K but yeah, this is one place I'd like to come again some day, for sure =)
