I hate it when this happens! Back in 2010 I posted my frustration with my previous Macbook Pro's Superdrive, and how even after a replacement by Apple, the darn thing wouldn't work as plan.
I did some burning yesterday for my dad and after 5 discs, it stopped and refused to continue burning. More importantly, it refused to accept new discs! Slotting the disc in resulted in the drive sucking in the DVD, and spitting out immediately, without even giving the media a spin!
Tried a few different medias as well, did a PRAM reset, SMC reset, and repaired my disc permissions. No luck! It looks like I might have to send my laptop in for repairs (I'm gonna miss my laptop!)
And just like the last time, I resorted to my Windows 7 Desktop PC for help.
I'll be the first to admit that burning a DVD on Windows 7 is easier than I thought. XP was terrible, don't go there, it's confusing, frustrating, and it make you feel like you need a degree in computer science at times to burn a disc.
For Windows 7, I just popped the disc in, select if I wanted to burn a data/video etc disc, pick the video file, click next to select how my DVD menu will look like (first time using Windows DVD maker, their menu themes looks rather good actually, surprised!), and click burn. Done!
That's a menu page of the DVD I burned...it's for my dad's Tai Chi stuff he wants to pass to his friends. A video of his guru demonstrating a 16 minute Tai Chi routine.
I've never really had much use for a desktop computer except for entertainment, that was the sole purpose of getting the $500 Windows PC and not a $2,400 iMac because I could do most of my work on my laptop, I dare not say all because so far the Superdrive has been giving me the worse of luck. =(
This time however, it's another +1 for the $500 desktop.
Gonna give an Apple Service Centre a call later to see if they could fix my Superdrive by the end of today. eServ doesn't seem to be operating at Sunshine Plaza anymore according to their website, thankfully there's Funan. Fingers Crossed!
